Think faded glory outside as per Venice and Firenze with clean creative spaces therein, tall ceilings with French doors opening onto large verandahs – More Corbusier than Chippendale, not too twee, not too quiet, more boho than 5 star, more artist’s digs than the Hilton or a cottage in the country! It has to be said that we offer an urban experience as per Soho, New York, rather than a sojourn in an English rural setting. This is comfortable, informal accommodation and our guests are many and varied including businesspeople, academics, travellers of all ages from home and abroad, architects, writers, musicians, actors and other creative souls with an eye to the good life. TARA was built in 1886 for a music teacher and 10 years later became a Doctor’s home and surgery until the 1960′s so she has seen a lot in her very full life – Purchased 5 years ago, we are in the process of bringing the old girl back up to scratch. She has come a long way from the dilapidated state she was in and needs some more done to make her perfect but is a gorgeous work in progress. Our guests are charting that progress as we add bathrooms to all bedrooms, eventually enabling us to offer en suite facilities for each room. In the immediate future we are asking our guests to share the existing bathrooms. Prices during our makeover phase are less than they will be when the duckling has transformed into the beautiful swan.

We trust that it can be seen that rates for staying at Tara represent very real value particularly taking into account our free transfers -a taxi will cost $30 -$40 each way often with a considerable wait at the airport – our very generous breakfasts and free wifi throughout the house.

Tara has installed an Aerobin composting system which experts say is the preferable method for dealing with green waste and helps to reduce greenhouse emissions, another step for us towards a greener footprint.
